HeliPark New Zealand

Viva la Revolución!

HeliPark is an environment for free-skiers and riders to train or play in powder, and for photographers and teams to work in successfully. It's another world first for NZ.

The HeliPark access pass costs just $250. This includes the first run. The helicopter flies all day, dropping groups into different spots. You then ski as many or as few of those runs as you wish and pay just $95 per lift. If you drop ten runs that's fine. If you take a break to build a kicker or eat some cake, that's cool too. It's your day and your budget.

FAQ:

How does it work?
You buy a Heli Park access pass which gets you onto the mountain and includes lunch and your first run. Each time you get into the chopper for another run the HeliPark guide clips your pass. You settle up back at base while enjoying apres-hour snacks and schnapps.

What’s the terrain like?
Heli Park’s operational area is 380Ha of incredible backcountry terrain. It varies from steeps and tight chutes to wide open powder bowls, gullies and drop-offs. There’s terrain to suit everyone from first time powder riders to seasoned pros on photo shoots.

Is it crowded?
No. We take a maximum of 20 skiers and riders up each day so that there are fresh lines for everyone and a happy sharing vibe.

What about safety?
HeliPark is as safe as we can make the backcountry. The area is controlled for avalanche hazard. All skiers and riders wear avalanche transceivers and are trained in their use before getting into the helicopter. The HeliPark safety team is on the mountain all day to make sure everything is sweet. We’ve got your back, we’re just not on it.

Do I need to be a really good skier/boarder?
Not at all. You need to be getting comfortable in powder on skis, and confidently linking turns on your board. Not all drop-off points are suitable for lower intermediate riders and skiers but our guides will let you know what will work best for you. Heli Park is a great place to get into skiing off-piste without the chop and crowds of other resorts. It’s a good idea to use fat skis.

Do you rent out fat skis?
Yes we have a selection of fats at the lodge you can pre-book and hire, or you can rent our Kingswood demo pairs by the day. Just indicate your preference on your booking form or via your travel agent.

What happens if the mountain is closed?
If the weather is bad and we can’t fly on your booked day we’ll work out another date that suits you. If that’s not possible your access pass is refunded. We recommend that you give yourself a few days window to allow for weather. If you want to visit Heli Park during a week long holiday don’t leave it until the last day.

I worry about the environment!
So do we. While we realize the concept of environmentally friendly heliskiing may sound like an oxymoron we’re trying our best here. Heli Park New Zealand is a participant in the Carbon Zero program, which means we measure and offset our carbon emissions. And of course, Mt.Potts Lodge runs on environment friendly hydro power. You can also ride share to get here.
